Angie Hall Tieman
Documentarian
Angie grew up on a wheat farm and attended college in the mean streets of rural eastern Washington. After living in nearly every corner of the United States, she has called San Diego home for the past nine years. She has worked as a television news producer, a smoothie maker, a lifeguard, a collegiate and high school volleyball coach, a business manager, a digital media teacher and currently, and most rewarding, a stay at home mom. She graduated with a B.A. in Rhetoric, emphasis in Electronic Media and Film from Eastern Washington University. While at Eastern Washington, Tieman earned the Scholar-Athlete of the Year (volleyball) and the Edward J. Yarwood Communication Studies Student of the Year awards. Angie obtained a Single Subject Credential in Language Arts and a Career Technical Education (CTE) credential in Arts, Media and Entertainment and is a Curriculum Writer for the CTE Institute. In addition to teaching, she has also produced many live webcasts and television broadcasts including the Coronado Schools Foundation Connect-a-Thon: a live television fundraiser which raises over $185,000 annually for Coronado schools.
In the summer of 2011, with Community Wings she took two Filmmaking students to Ghana, where they interviewed and filmed teens who move from the rural north to cities in the south wherein they attempt to earn their own money by working as porters or Kayayo in the busy markets there. The students, under the direction of Tieman, spent a school year editing the film and entered it into several contests. It won Best in Show at the San Diego County Fair and Audience Choice at the Red Rock Film Festival in Zion. The film’s primary intention, however, is to raise awareness about the Kayayo and create a scholarship fund for Ghanaian students. In addition to teaching and filmmaking, Tieman enjoys the outdoors, playing beach volleyball, snowboarding and spending time with her husband Chris and their son Jedidiah.
